UPPER EYELID BLEPHAROPLASTY

BLEPHAROPLASTY

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that repairs droopy eyelids. This technique is often performed for aesthetic reasons and may involve removing excess skin, muscle, and fat to tighten the skin around the eyes, thus achieving a radiant, youthful appearance.

Besides making you look older, severely sagging skin around your eyes can reduce your peripheral vision, especially the upper and outer parts of your field of vision. So, in addition to aesthetics, blepharoplasty also has a functional purpose.

UPPER BLEPHAROPLASTY

At the Dental Oral Center polyclinic, we perform an upper blepharoplasty. It is an aesthetic surgical procedure for correcting the upper eyelid.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

All blepharoplasty procedures involve incisions into the skin around the eyes. However, visible scarring should be virtually non-existent.
That is because the incisions are made in the crease of the eyelid. Provided that the surgeon has the necessary skills and expertise to achieve great results, you should experience little to no visible scarring. In the Dental Oral Center, we use the so-called intradermal suture that provides the least chance of scarring.

Since a local anesthetic is applied, eyelid surgery is among the least painful cosmetic procedures. After the surgery, you may experience minimal discomfort and swelling. Aside from minimal discomfort on the day, you’ll have a quick recovery and see the results swiftly, should you follow the doctor’s orders.

Blepharoplasty surgery is performed close to the eyeball. However,
the eye cannot be damaged during blepharoplasty since the procedure is performed by a specialist surgeon on the eyelid only.

You might be a good candidate for blepharoplasty if you show signs of aging around the eyes. Those signs include fat deposits on the upper eyelid that makes the skin appear puffy, hanging skin on the upper eyelid, and droopy upper eyelids, which may cause aesthetic and functional problems.

The first results of blepharoplasty can be seen a week after the procedure, while the final results take longer. After a month, the results will amaze you.

Should you follow the doctor’s orders, you may find that your eyes recover fast. It will need up to seven days to recover after blepharoplasty.

PROCEDURE

The upper blepharoplasty needs to be performed by a specialist surgeon since the area around the eye is delicate and previous consultations are necessary. Since it belongs to a simple surgical intervention, your surgeon injects numbing medication into your eyelids and administers intravenous medication to help you relax.

The surgeon works on your upper lids, cutting along the fold of the eyelid, removing some excess skin, muscle, and possibly fat, and closing the cut with a delicate thread.

The whole procedure takes about thirty minutes. After surgery, you spend time in a recovery room, where you are monitored. You can leave later that day to recuperate at home.

The result is a refreshed younger appearance and improved field of vision.
