BICHECTOMY

BICHECTOMY

Bichectomy consists of removing the fatty tissue of Bichat balls which are fat pads located on the lower part of the face. Bichat bags are not essential for the body, and your main one is for the first years of life chewing and sucking for babies. Usually, the size of the fat pads diminishes with age, but some people might still have prominent, chipmunk cheeks.

The bichectomy procedures can help reduce the rounded cheeks and set the cheekbones, leaving the appearance a bit more sculpted.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

If the patient follows the MD’s instructions, recovery takes two to three months.

The wound heals quickly, and the results are noticeable after ten days.

Bicehectomy is typically performed under local anesthesia, and the patient will not feel any pain during surgery.

Complications are rare in the hands of an experienced, certified surgeon.

Because the fat pad continues to grow until our twenties, it’s usually recommended to wait until after 25 for buccal fat removal surgery.

PROCEDURE

The bichectomy is performed through a small incision inside the mouth, under local anesthesia. The patient is detained for 24 hours and then referred for home rehabilitation.
